Letter from the CEO – December 2014

Dear AWEE Stakeholders,

There’s an interesting dynamic this time of year. We do a lot of looking back at the 12 months that are falling away, often through letters from friends and families recounting the milestones – good and bad – and we make grand plans (some people call them resolutions) for the 365 days ahead.

Of course, this we know for a fact: we can’t stop time, slow it down or adjust it. We can waste it or use it to our advantage. At AWEE, given the challenges of the world in which we operate, we’ve become experts at the latter, and it’s paying off.

That expertise served us well in 2014, due to the remarkable commitment and creativity of the wonderful team of women and men who are part of the AWEE family from the staff to the board.

With the tools, strategic and progressive thinking and the people who give this organization its heart and soul, we will continue making the best use of every minute we have.

Our efforts touched many more lives this year through successful collaborations with Goodwill Industries and UMOM. We added several new programs including one funded through a $600,000 grant we’re sharing with Pima County Community Services for a job-training program for women and men who have lost their homes to foreclosure or are at risk of that happening.

Through our new and ongoing programs, the growing list of achievements by the women and men we serve are poignantly reflected in our annual Faces of Success Luncheon, which hit 20 years in November.

The other thing about time: you can’t spend too much of it looking back without looking at what lies ahead. For us that means keeping our eyes on the ever-changing economic climate and our ability to quickly and nimbly adjust to growing and ongoing needs of our participants and the community at large.

We’ve shown time and again why AWEE remains Arizona’s premiere workforce development organization. With the tools, strategic and progressive thinking and the people who give this organization its heart and soul, we will continue making the best use of every minute we have.

May your holidays be warm, peaceful and surrounded by friends and family.

With deep appreciation for your support,

Marie A. Sullivan
